Lumenorth Stack Double Glass Wall Light

Stack is a wall sconce built from two glass shades set one above the other: a vertical, symmetrical form that throws light evenly upward and downward instead of out into the room. The symmetry of the thing is not merely decorative. It is what makes the light behave the way it does, and the look follows from the optics rather than the reverse.

That stacked silhouette is what gives this fixture its calm. Light leaves in two directions in equal measure, so the wall gets an architectural glow running above and below the fitting rather than a single hot spot in the middle of it. It reads as sculpture when it is switched off and as ambient lighting when it is on, which is a considerably harder combination to achieve than it sounds, and it is why the fitting suits a hallway or a living room where it is looked at all day and used only in the evening.

Mount a pair spaced along a corridor, or fit one on either side of a mirror in a bathroom. Because the output goes up and down rather than forward, it never glares at anyone walking past it at close range in a narrow hallway.
