Lumenorth Nook Adjustable Plug-In Sconce

Nook is named for what it makes rather than what it is: point the arm, and an ordinary corner becomes somewhere to sit and read. That is a genuinely useful thing for a light fitting to do in a flat where no corner was ever designed for sitting in and the sockets are all in the wrong places anyway.

Both the arm and the shade move, which is what lets a single fixture cover three separate jobs. Angle it down and it is a reading light, focused on the page. Point it at the wall and it becomes accent lighting, bouncing a soft glow back into the room. Leave it wide and it is ambient light for the whole corner. Most sconces do exactly one of those three things and expect the room to work around it; this one does whichever the evening happens to call for, and it changes from one to another in a second.

The white shade diffuses the output into something soft rather than sharp, which matters on a fitting that will be within arm's reach. It plugs into a standard wall socket, so there is no wiring, no electrician and nothing permanent left behind on the wall.
