About this collection
Scandinavian homes light a room with several small sources rather than one bright ceiling. A floor lamp is where that starts: a warm pool over the armchair you actually read in, an arc lamp reaching over the sofa, a slim standing lamp filling a corner. Dimmable, integrated LED, no bulbs to buy.
Frequently asked questions
Where should a floor lamp go in a living room?
Place a reading floor lamp just behind and to the side of a chair or sofa so the light falls over your shoulder onto the page. An uplighting or paper floor lamp works best in a dark corner, where it lifts the light level of the whole room.
How tall should a floor lamp be?
Most floor lamps are about 58 to 64 inches (145 to 165 cm) tall. For reading, the bottom of the shade should sit roughly at shoulder height when you are seated, so the bulb is not in your eyes.
Can a floor lamp light a whole room?
One floor lamp rarely lights a whole room on its own. In Scandinavian homes it is one of several small light sources, combined with wall and table lamps, so each part of the room has its own pool of light.
