Lumenorth Sable Black & Gold Wall Sconce

Sable is a black wall sconce with gold detailing: the darkest finish in the range, warmed just enough by the metal running through it. The proportion of gold to black is the whole decision here, and it has been kept deliberately low. A little more of the gold and the fitting would tip over into something else entirely.

Black on its own can flatten a wall and read as a hole in it; gold on its own can tip into showy in a room that did not ask for it. Together they do what neither manages alone. The dark body holds a sharp graphic outline against pale plaster while the gold catches whatever ambient light is in the room and stops the fixture reading as a flat silhouette. That is why this particular combination keeps reappearing in Nordic interiors long after other finishes have come and gone.

Choose the plug-in version for a rental or for a wall with no point on it at all, and the hardwired version where you are staying put and want no visible cord anywhere. Both share exactly the same body, so the two versions can be mixed within one house without anyone noticing the difference.
