Lumenorth Hinge Plug-In Wall Sconce

Hinge is a plug-in wall sconce named for the joint that makes it useful: an arm that pivots freely, so the light goes wherever you point it rather than wherever the fixture happens to face by default. A hinge is not a glamorous thing to name a lamp after, and that is rather the point of the whole exercise here.

The silhouette of the fitting is spare and clean in the Scandinavian way, but the black finish on it gives the fitting a clear industrial edge that keeps it from ever looking too polite. That combination is what lets it sit in a contemporary apartment, a minimalist bedroom or a slightly rough-edged workspace without ever looking as though it has been borrowed from somewhere else. Very few fittings manage all three of those rooms, and most that try end up committing properly to one and merely tolerating the other two.

It plugs into a standard socket, so there is no wiring, no electrician and nothing permanent left on the wall afterwards. Mount one above a desk and angle it onto the work, or fit a pair either side of a bed where each one can be aimed separately without affecting the other.
