Lumenorth Float Levitating Lamp

Float holds an LED bulb suspended in mid-air above its base using magnetic levitation. There is no wire running to the bulb and no visible support, just a fifteen-millimetre gap that almost everyone puts a hand through the first time they see it working.

Underneath the spectacle it behaves like ordinary, useful light. A touch switch on the base turns it on and cycles three warm-white tones, from a low ambient glow for the evening up to a brighter working tone, without swapping bulbs or opening an app. The bulb measures eleven by six centimetres and the base is a low fifteen by three, so the whole thing occupies less of a desk than a coffee cup and a saucer would. It is a talking point that still earns the space it takes up on the days when nobody in the room comments on it at all.
