Trellis is a planter pendant light: a ceiling lamp with a shallow growing tray built into the shade, so the fixture becomes a small hanging garden that also lights the room beneath it. Fill the tray with pothos, string of pearls, ivy or trailing succulents and let them spill over the rim and down around the drop. As the plants grow, the light filters up through the leaves and throws soft, moving shadows across the ceiling, which changes the whole feel of a room in the evening. Below the tray the lamp still casts a clean downward beam, so it works as a genuine light over a table rather than only as a piece of greenery with a bulb hidden inside it.

Use a free-draining compost and water sparingly, since the tray sits directly above a live fitting. Hang it where the plants get some daylight: over a kitchen table, near a landing window, or above a bathroom basin where the humidity suits them.
