Lumenorth Sienna Orange Glass Table Lamp

Sienna is named after the burnt earth pigment, and the glass carries the same depth of colour. Blown in deep orange over soft white, it throws a honeyed light across a shelf, a desk or a bedside table, and it holds its shape as a sculptural object even when it is switched off.

At twenty-one by twenty-five centimetres, Sienna is deliberately modest: large enough to read as a design piece, small enough to sit beside books and plants without crowding them off the surface. The rounded silhouette and clean colour blocking follow the Bauhaus principle that a useful object should also be worth looking at, with no applied decoration and nothing shaped for the sake of it. The white inner layer of glass does the optical work, diffusing the bulb so that the orange outer layer glows evenly rather than showing a hot centre.
