Signal is a battery-operated wall lantern: the shape of a hung lamp, with none of the wiring that usually comes with one. The LED is powerful enough to properly light a dark corner rather than merely glowing decoratively in the middle of it, which is the failing of almost every battery lantern sold. That matters most in the places that have no wiring and no nearby outlet: a landing, the far end of a hallway, an entryway, a wardrobe, or a room in an old house where the electrics simply stopped short of where they were needed.
