Beacon is a cordless table lamp with no cable to hide and no socket to sit near. It charges by USB-C and then goes wherever it is wanted: a dinner table, a windowsill, a shelf in a room the wiring forgot, or a garden table on a summer evening when the light starts to go and nobody wants to move indoors yet.

A 1500 mAh battery gives up to sixteen hours at low brightness and around six hours at full output, and recharges fully in about three hours, so an evening outdoors never depends on finding an extension lead. The LED is rated for twenty-five thousand hours, which means the lamp will comfortably outlast most of the furniture it sits on. Tap the top to switch on and cycle three brightness levels, and hold to move through the colour range when you want something other than plain warm white.

It suits a table laid outside, a child's room where a low colour glow helps at night, or a bedside that has run out of sockets. Keep it out of reach of small children while it is charging, and supervise younger children using it as a night light rather than leaving it loose in a cot or a bed overnight.
