About this collection
Scandinavian pendant lights are built around a simple idea: put warm, glare-free light exactly where people gather. This collection brings together our Nordic pendant lights and ceiling lights, from wood and glass pendants like the Timber to the Danish-style Dome flowerpot pendant and the ultra-slim Halo flush mount ceiling light for low ceilings.
Hang a pendant low over a dining table, in a row above a kitchen island, or choose a flush ceiling light where the ceiling sits close. Our guides cover pendant height over a dining table, pendant size and lighting for low ceilings.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a pendant light Scandinavian?
Scandinavian pendant lights favour simple shapes, natural materials such as wood, glass, paper and stone, and shades that hide the bulb so the light is soft and glare-free. They are designed to light a specific spot, like a table, rather than flood a whole room.
How high should a pendant light hang over a dining table?
Hang the bottom of the shade about 28 to 34 inches (70 to 85 cm) above the tabletop. That lights the table without blocking the view across it. Our dining table guide explains how to adjust for ceiling height and shade size.
What size pendant light do I need?
For a dining table, choose a shade roughly one third to one half of the table's width. In a room without a table, add the room's length and width in feet and use that number in inches as a guide to the diameter of a central light.
Which ceiling lights work for low ceilings?
Flush and semi-flush ceiling lights sit close to the ceiling and suit rooms under about 8 feet (2.4 m). Pendants still work over tables and islands, where nobody walks underneath them.
Are your pendant lights dimmable?
Many are. Fixtures that take a standard bulb can be dimmed with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer switch, and several integrated LED ceiling lights include their own dimming. Each product page states whether that light is dimmable.
