Pearl suspends a rounded glass shade from a slim golden body. The metal is kept deliberately thin so the glass appears to float rather than to hang, and the warm finish picks up whatever colour the shade happens to be casting into the room. It is a small fitting that does not try to dominate the space it occupies. That restraint is what makes it work in pairs.

Amber glass warms the light towards gold and suits a bedroom, where the last light of the evening really should not be white if anyone intends to sleep afterwards. Grey mutes the output into something cooler and more architectural, which reads better in a living room or above a console table in a hallway. Both finishes diffuse the bulb completely, so there is no bright filament visible from a low angle when you are lying down underneath it.

This is a pendant that works best in twos. Hung either side of a bed it replaces two table lamps and gives back the whole surface of both nightstands, and over a long console it divides the run into a balanced composition rather than leaving one bright patch stranded at the centre of the wall.
