Maple pairs a wooden backplate with a glass shade: the warm material set against the clear one, which is the oldest reliable combination in domestic lighting and remains reliable for good reasons. Neither of the two elements is trying to be clever about anything. The wood is simply wood and the glass is simply glass, and with those two things the whole fitting is finished.

The wooden plate gives the fixture warmth and grain that metal simply cannot provide, while the glass shade diffuses the bulb into an even, comfortable glow rather than a hard point at eye level. Neither material dates and neither dominates the other, and the result is elegant without ever being formal. That is why it works as easily in a living room as in a bedroom, and why it looks equally correct in a period house and a flat built last year with plasterboard walls throughout.

It is a plug-in fitting, so there is no wiring, no electrician and nothing permanent left on the wall. Mount a pair either side of a bed, or a single one in an entryway, where a little warmth on arrival goes a very long way on a dark winter afternoon.

  • Material: wooden backplate with a glass shade
  • Light: evenly diffused, comfortable at eye level
  • Wood supplies warmth and grain that metal cannot
  • Installation: plug-in, no wiring or electrician
  • Fully removable, suitable for rented flats
  • Best for: bedrooms, living rooms, entryways, offices and hallways
  • Ships worldwide with tracking, delivered in 3-14 business days
