Lumenorth Linen Nordic Wall Sconce

Linen is a Nordic wall sconce with the soft, matte quality its name suggests: a fixture designed to warm a room rather than announce itself in it. The finish has no sheen to catch a reflection, which is what keeps it quiet on a wall opposite a window. It is a fitting for people who would rather not notice their lighting at all.

White is the quietest of the three finishes and keeps a small room feeling open by disappearing into the plaster behind it. Black gives the sharpest definition against a pale wall and suits a room where the fittings are meant to register as part of the scheme. Gold warms the light and adds a decorative note without ever tipping into ornament. Each one suits a different kind of interior, but all three share exactly the same restrained silhouette, which means a house can use more than one finish without looking indecisive.

It is dimmable, so the same fitting handles a bright evening and a low one equally well. Mount a pair either side of a bed, or a single one in a hallway where a softer light is wanted than the ceiling fitting is ever going to provide.
